Can I just buy Guild wars an Eye of the north an no other Adds? Also some other stuff
Hi I do not have enough for all the expansions so I just wanted Guild wars an Eye of the north. Is that possible to just buy them or do you need other expansions to play Eye of the north? I am new to GW an wanted EOTN so I can get some stuff in GW2 mainly.

Before you buy anything, look into the cost of the GW Trilogy. You can get all three campaigns (Prophecies, Nightfall & Factions) for $29.99 from Steam or Amazon. With Steam you could begin playing immediately.
You can get Eye of the North from newegg.com for $5.99 - they ship fast and they're VERY reliable. So you could have all three campaigns, and the expansion, for under $36. Btw - you should REALLY remove your email address from your profile. You shouldn't publicize that information. |

kk... then yes, you can get just one of the campaigns and still add EotN to it. It only requires you to have one of them.
The Trilogy goes on sale a lot, usually for about $19.99... so if in the future you want to add the other two, just pick up the Trilogy when you can afford it and add the access code to your account and you'll be able to play the other two campaigns then. But in the meantime, yup, you can use EotN with just one of the campaigns! |

You'll pick it up quickly... especially if you make liberal use of the Wiki: http://wiki.gtm.guildwars.com/wiki/Main_Page
It's a fantastic resource! |

Can't you buy the trilogy through steam using paypal? Shouldn't need a credit card for that. (then again you won't have the physical discs as you prefer)
I reckon you'd get a lot more enjoyment out of having all campaigns than just a single one. |

Probably would but guess what no paypal either an I do not have enough money ATM. Also why can't a player with Reg guild wars that levels up go there? Because there is a pack with Guild wars 1 an EOTN for like $30 but I cant buy that. Why would they sell that if you can't? Nvm I think I understand now. So what order should I get the Add ons in? I am going to get GW1 an then at what point should I buy one an which one? I am probably going to be a warrior.

Nightfall would be the first campaign I bought for access to heros and sheer amount of points that can be gained from there.
If your aim is to get stuff for your HoM in preparation for gw2 then you really need all campaigns. Would be a huge hassle and a lot of effort to try getting points with only 2 campaigns. As for playing a warrior... not the easiest class to play when your stuck with a limited selection of skills. Also imo warriors lack anything that make them special. They aren't used as tanks anymore and they're damage is not that great except for rare circumstances. Don't get me wrong, they're not useless, but unless im actually playing on my warrior I don't have a warrior in my party at all. If you want something versatile and more useful id suggest Necromancer or Mesmer. |

Essentially how it works is that each campaign (Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall) each have their separate story lines. It won't really matter with which campaign you start, however I personally would recommend Prophecies as the storyline (to me) feels a lot more solid from the beginning onwards. As you progress through the prophecies campaign and feel that you are ready to sample some of the other campaigns and add those keys onto your account, you can then move your character to those campaigns and work on those storylines. The Games were released in the following order: Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall. (if this helps you decide on your purchase order) The reason why I mentioned that you may get more out of the experience with all 3 campaigns is due to the fact that you have access to a larger set of skills, heroes and professions. (as well as multiple storylines) If you're preparing for GW2, as garethmidge mentioned, you will require at least one campaign of your choice and Eye of the North. Going for a complete HoM will require you to own all 3 campaigns though. Regarding your choice to start as Warrior, it really depends on what kind of role you enjoy in the party. I've got someone in my alliance who started the game about a fortnight ago and decided to play warrior. He loves it. Either way, you can always use another character slot to create a character of another profession to sample the other flavors. |

There is a difference between campaigns and expansions in GW, and this sometimes confuses people trying to decide what they need.
Each campaign can be played as a stand-alone game, where you install it, make a character, and start playing. You can connect the campaigns if you have more than one, but each one is a complete game by itself, not an add-on to the others. Think of them like houses. You only need one to have complete shelter, but you can put sidewalks between them if you have more than one. An expansion, like EotN, is not a complete game by itself. It does not have the tools to create characters, for example. It must be added on to one or more of the campaigns to create a larger game. Think of it as an attic. You have to have the house before you can put an attic on top of it. |

I just found out I can get the trilogy today. What do you guys recommend for starting class an starting area? I wanted to choose warrior because it seems like a simple class to start the game with. I am going to probably also start on a roleplaying server or what have you.

Warriors are a great profession to start with. Just pick up a weapon and start swinging - you can worry about learning all the details later on. No profession is too complex to not be useable for a new player so just choose what appeals to you*.
*Although the description of Elementalists being big damage dealers is only true for the early parts of the game. Once you get into the harder stuff the damage turns to crap due to the armor levels of foes. Other professions like Mesmers, Ritualists, Necromancers, and the melee professions have armor ignoring damage so if you want to deal lots of damage they would be more appropriate choices.

having the disks physically are basically useless, once you install you will never need the disks again... hell i don't think you need them the first time, you can download the client off guildwars.com and just enter your key codes, i'd go the steam route for cheap fast GW campaigns. i've had my "physical" copies of GW for years and have not used them more than once since i bought it.

For starting area, I think Prophecies is a very good choice for a brand new player. However, it is much slower paced than any of the others, so you may prefer Nightfall if you are the kind of player who gets the hang of things faster. Nightfall also starts giving you heroes right from the beginning. I would not recommend Factions for a first-time player, because I think the pace is a little too fast. Factions is great for experienced players making new characters, since you get to maximum level very quickly, but the pace may prove a little confusing for someone new to the game. If you are into roleplaying and story, then take the campaigns in the order they were released. (Though you can make a quick side-trip about 1/3 of the way through Prophecies to pick up some heroes without spoiling anything.) Granted, the spoilers in Factions and Nightfall are very minor, so it doesn't matter much if you do the campaigns out of order unless you're a real stickler for detail. |
